We are often asked questions regarding the products and services we offer. For the benefit of all, we decided to share the most common questions and answers. If you have a question that is not listed below, please e-mail us.
Q: I noticed that PistolGear is offering their own brand of barrel for the XD. What can I expect from this barrel? A: You can expect our barrel to be of the highest quality in all regards. Our match barrels are to be fitted by a qualified gunsmith, in order to give you the best fit and highest level of accuracy. Our testing shows that the barrels are capable of a group size of 1.5 inches at 25 yards. We utilized a ransom rest and several brands of factory ammunition during our tests.
Q: Will your .357SIG and 9MM conversion barrels fir the new XDm? A: Yes they will.
Q: How does your brand of barrel compare to others on the market? A: Without going into any detail or bashing the products offered by others, what we can say is that we have spent a lot of time honing the design for the benefit of accuracy and performance. If you compare our barrels to other brands, you will see that both our fit and finish is superior at a lower price point. Our barrels deliver the value that our customers expect from PistolGear. Our barrels are less money but they are not cheaper. We know you will be happy with the results.
Q: What is the difference between Semi Drop-In Standard and Semi Drop-In Conversion? A: The conversion barrels are intended to take a gun that shoots 40S&W from the factory and convert it into a gun that will shoot either .357SIG or 9mm. The Standard is a factory replacement, shooting the same caliber as the stock barrel. Both barrels will offer a tighter lockup, are made of stainless steel and have our match rifling.
When converting down to .357SIG or 9mm, we suggest that you use .357SIG and 9mm magazines.
Q: Does PistolGear have a release date for their Conversion Barrels? A: At this moment, we don't have a solid release date on our conversion barrels. What we can say is that we are working as swiftly as we can, as we too are excited about their availability. We appreciate your interest and patience.
Q: Will the XD Trigger Upgrade Kit work in my XD45ACP? A: If you purchase the kit for the XD45ACP, you will get the components required to run with that model.
Q: I have a XD45ACP model that includes the manual safeties. Can you tell me if the Springer Precision 45ACP Kit will work with my gun. A: Because of your model, the kit you require will be available around the first of August 2008. At this time, the available kit will NOT fit your gun.
Q: I have installed the Springer Precision Trigger Kit on my gun and I noticed that on some brands of ammunition I am getting a light strike. Any thoughts? A: Some brands of ammunition use harder primers (e.g CCI, Winchester, others). If you come across a brand where you are getting light hits, we suggest you use your stock striker spring and NOT the striker spring that came with the trigger kit. We also know that frangible ammunition will not fire with the reduced weight spring because of the lead-free tough primer. For frangible ammo, use your stock spring.
Q: Do you have any instructions on fitting the XD Trigger Bar? I ask because I installed the bar and the gun will not fire. I assume I need to do a little work in order to get the gun to run properly. I would appreciate any help you can offer. A: One of the XDTalk members did a great write up on his fitting experience. The information he shares is excellent and I encourage you to review his work. The write-up is well done: http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43154
Q: I have the XD Subcompact in 9mm. Will the Trigger Upgrade Kit you offer fit my gun? A: Yes it will. We even have the new trigger bar in stock for the XDSC, which will allow you to limit your Pre-Travel and Over-Travel.
Q: Do you offer a Guide Rod for the XD45ACP Service model? A: At the present time, because of a lack of viable spring options, we do not offer the Tungsten Guide Rod for the XD45ACP Service/Compact model. We hope that this changes in the near future.
Q: I have a Canyon Creek Tungsten Guide Rod for the XD9/40. Can you tell me if you offer replacement springs for this guide rod? A: We do offer springs for the Canyon Creek Tungsten Rod. The rod you have uses the the same springs used for Don's Guide Rods. The springs can be found here: http://pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=88WOA
Q: Do you offer a replacement, one-piece guide rod for the XD Subcompact? Does Don make one? A: There is currently no replacement setup for the XDSC, sorry.
Q: I am looking at Don's Guide Rod, yet I don't know what spring weight to choose. What do you suggest? A: Spring weight is subjective and depends on many factors. If you have the XD Service model, you shouldn't to go less than 18# for reliability reasons. For the Tactical, 16# is as light as you should go. If you shoot MINOR Power Factor reloads, the minimum weights are a good starting weight. For factory ammunition, we suggest weights of 20 to 22 pounds.
Q: I ordered Don's Guide Rod and you guys sent me a 1911 spring. How do I go about getting the correct spring? A: The spring you received is correct. Don's Guide Rod uses, and is compatible with, 1911 springs.
Q: What do I do with the small spring (firing pin spring) that I received with my Don's Guide Rod. A: That spring is for a 1911 and is NOT compatible with the XD. You can either install it in a 1911 or throw it in the trash. Whatever you do, do NOT install it in a XD.
Q: Do you have an instruction sheet that will help with the installation of Dons Guide Rod? A: We have several instructional resources on our Tutorials page, one of which will covers Don's Guide Rod.
Q: Is Don's Guide Rod legal for IDPA? A: Yes.
Q: Can I use the stock spring that came with my XD Tactical with Don's Tactical length Guide Rod? A: Yes
Q: Regarding your Guide Rod for the CZ97, are you able to offer a rod for other CZ models? A: Currently, this is something best left up to Don. If there is a demand, Don will deliver. Furthermore, Don is always looking for ways to raise money for his beer collection.
Q: Will the A&G sleeves fit the XD45ACP magazines? A: No, they will not fit the XD45ACP magazines.
Q: Will either the AGP or Arredondo mag extension work with the Magwell and Frame Plug? A: Yes, both items are compatible with the Magwell and Frame Plug.
Q: Does the Pearce Grip Extension fit the XD45ACP Compact? A: No. That product is for the small frame magazine, such as the 9mm/40SW/357SIG/45GAP
Q: Which grip sleeve is better, the Hogue or the Pachmayr? A: There is no right answer on this one. Both grips options are quality and either one would be the right choice.
Q: I recently purchased the Hogue Slip-On Grip for my XD Tactical. It is tight fitting! Is there a trick to getting this thing installed so it will not tear? A: A trick is to fill a bowl with hot water. Place the grip into the bowl, allowing the rubber to soften from the heat. The soft, wet rubber will make the installation of the grip much easier. Once installed, just dry the grip and frame with a towel and allow the rest to air dry.
Q: Is the NHO Magwell for XD legal for USPSA Production? A: No.
Q: I recently added a slip-on grip to my XD and it keeps slipping out of place. Any suggestions on keeping it in place? A: A good trick is to spray a little hairspray to the inside of the sleeve with you are installing the sleeve. The wet spray will help with placement. The dry spray will act like a non-permanent glue.
Extended Mag Release Button Questions: Q: I purchased the NHO Mag Release Button for XD and the screw keeps coming loose and the button head falls off. What should I do? A: Once you have the button installed in the frame as we have shown on our Tutorial Page, back out the small screw, add a dot of Loctite to the threads and tighten the screw.
Q: I intend to shoot IDPA and USPSA this year and I am looking for a holster. Of the holsters you sell for the XD, which one would be best for me? A: For starters, you want a holster that meets the rules for each of the sports. Beyond that, you want a holster that will secure the weapon yet allow you to adjust the tension for a smooth draw. We have several options that will work, such as the Blade-Tech Belt Holster and the BlackHawk Holsters.
Q: Do you install sights? A: We don't install sights. Although we are asked this daily, our reasoning is simple yet confusing for some to understand. There are good folks out there, gunsmiths, who make a living by installing sights and fixing firearms. We at PistolGear want to see our industry thrive and we need gunsmiths to help with the growth. If you don't have a local gunsmith to help with the installation of your sights, may we suggest you contact Canyon Creek or Springer Precision.
Q: I am looking to purchase a new set of sights for my XD. How do I know if they will work with the holster I have? A: To answer this, you are best to e-mail us the brand and model of holster you have and the brand and model of sights you intend to use. We do know that the Dawson Adjustable Set's Front Sight is too tall for BlackHawk holsters. There may be some other examples of incompatibility.
Q: Does PistolGear charge sales tax? A: All orders that have an Illinois billing or shipping address are required to include Illinois sales tax. As of 1 January 2008, the rate of this tax is 7.5%. This amount include 6.5% for the state and 1% for Will County. Q: What is the Ionbond Finish? A: This is a firearms finish that is applied through a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process. This involves the depositing of diamond-like carbon coatings via a vacuum, and results in a finish that will provide years of protection against wear while retaining a nice appearance.
Q: Why should I coat my firearms and small parts in Ionbond finish? A: The value of a firearm can be diminished by holster wear, trigger action, hammer, slides, recoil, corrosion, smoothness and appearance. It does not matter if your weapon is used for hunting, target practice, competition, self defense, or professionally, reliability and performance are the critical components for success.
Q: Can I get the Ionbond finish in a color other than black? A: Black is your only option.
Q: Will the Ionbond finish crack, chip, or peel like some of your traditional spray-on firearm finishes? A: Ionbond’s unique application process makes it a finish that does not chip, crack or peel as it is a micron level coating.
Q: How tough is the Ionbond finish. A: The Ionbond finish is 30% tougher than hard chrome and 2x times tougher than a melonite finish.
Q: There is an item option that I am interested in and it doesn't let me include myself on a notification list. Why not? A: You can only be added to the master level. If an option of that item (e.g. size, color, caliber, weight, etc.) is out of stock, there isn't a way of being added to an auto-notification list. Sorry.
Q: Can you email me when an item is put into stock? A: At this time, because of the number of requests we receive, it is not possible for us to contact everyone. Usually, when an item is out of stock, it is replenished within 5 business days.
